What it is

The new moon — the dark, quiet start of the lunar cycle — has long been treated as nature's fresh page. This ritual gives your month a deliberate beginning: you'll clear a little space, reflect on what's ending, and write intentions for the cycle ahead as if planting seeds you trust to grow. Whether you see the moon as energy or simply as a beautiful recurring calendar, a monthly intention-setting rhythm keeps your dreams actively tended.

How to practise it

  1. Do the ritual on the new moon, or within two days of it.
  2. Clear a small, calm space — a candle or dim light helps.
  3. Reflect briefly on the cycle that's ending and what it taught you.
  4. Write up to ten intentions for the month ahead, in present tense.
  5. Read each one aloud, pausing to feel it as planted.
  6. Close the ritual and keep the list where you'll glimpse it often.

Make it land

  • Fewer, deeper intentions outperform a long wish list.
  • Revisit the list at the full moon to see what's sprouting.
