What it is

WOOP — Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan — is manifestation with its work boots on, developed from decades of psychology research on mental contrasting. You'll name your wish, savor the best outcome, then do the brave part: honestly identify the inner obstacle most likely to trip you, and pre-write an if-then plan for it. Dreaming plus planning outperforms dreaming alone, and WOOP is the cleanest way to do both in ten minutes flat.

How to practise it

  1. Wish: write the goal that matters most right now, in one line.
  2. Outcome: describe the best result and savor it for a moment.
  3. Obstacle: name the inner block most likely to trip you — be honest.
  4. Plan: write an if-then line: 'If [obstacle shows up], then I will [action].'
  5. Reread the whole WOOP once, slowly.
  6. Repeat whenever the goal evolves or the obstacle changes shape.

Make it land

  • The obstacle must be yours — 'my phone' is really 'my urge to scroll'.
  • One WOOP per goal; stacking several wishes muddies the plan.
