What it is

Imagine the version of you three years from now — settled into the life you're currently dreaming about. In this practice, they write back to you. You'll draft a letter in their voice: what they're grateful you started, what worried you that turned out fine, what they want you to keep doing. It's part visualization, part pep talk from the one person who truly gets you. Many people keep these letters and reread them on hard days.

How to practise it

  1. Picture yourself three years from now, living the life you're building toward.
  2. Write the date three years ahead and greet today-you by name.
  3. Let future-you describe their life: home, work, mornings, the feeling of it.
  4. Have them thank you for specific choices you're making right now.
  5. Let them reassure you about the worry that weighs most today.
  6. Sign it with love, then reread it slowly as the recipient.

Make it land

  • Keep the letter somewhere reachable — it's medicine for discouraged days.
  • Write a fresh letter every few months and watch how the voice matures.
